Drywall Repair in Pasco & the Tri-Cities

Speedy's Handyman does drywall repair in Pasco, Kennewick, Richland and the rest of the Tri-Cities: holes, cracks, nail pops and water-damaged walls and ceilings cut out, patched, texture-matched to orange peel or knockdown, primed and painted, so the repair disappears into the wall around it.

One call, one invoice. We handle the repairs, and when your project needs plumbing, electrical or HVAC, we hire licensed pros we trust and fit them into the schedule. Call (509) 518-3320.

What does drywall repair in Pasco involve?

Every patch follows the same order: find out why the wall was damaged, cut back to sound drywall, fasten the patch to framing or backing, tape and mud it in thin coats, match the texture, then prime and paint. Skipping a step is what makes a patch show up later as a bump, a shiny square or a crack along the tape line.

In Pasco we see two kinds of houses. Older homes east of Road 68 bring doorknob holes, cracked corners and patches on top of old patches. Newer homes on the west side bring nail pops and hairline cracks over doors and at ceiling corners once the framing dries and settles in the first few years. Both get the same process. A crack that keeps coming back in the same spot usually means the tape has let go, so we cut it out and re-tape it rather than skimming over it.

Can you match orange peel and knockdown texture?

Yes, and texture is where most patches fail. Orange peel is a fine spray that dries in small dimples, like the skin of an orange. Knockdown is a heavier splatter that's flattened with a wide knife a few minutes after it goes on, leaving flat islands. Some rooms are smooth, and some ceilings still have popcorn.

  • We test first. Texture is sprayed on scrap board or a primed patch and adjusted (thinner mud, smaller tip, lower pressure) until the pattern and spacing match the wall.
  • We feather the edges past the patch so there's no hard line where new texture meets old.
  • We prime before paint. Bare mud soaks up paint differently, so an unprimed patch "flashes" as a dull square in raking light.
  • We paint corner to corner when the wall's sheen or color has faded, instead of dabbing paint on the patch.

How do you repair water-damaged drywall and ceilings?

Water damage starts with the source. If it's a supply line, drain or water heater, we bring in a licensed plumber to fix it; if it's a roof jack or a failed caulk joint, that's work we do. Then:

  1. Check what got wet. We press, probe and look behind the board. Drywall that stayed wet goes soft and crumbly and has to come out; a dry, firm ceiling with only a stain can often stay.
  2. Cut out the bad section back to the nearest framing, so the patch has something solid to screw to, and replace wet insulation in ceilings.
  3. Hang new board, tape, and mud in three thin coats with drying time in between.
  4. Seal stains on sound areas with a stain-blocking primer, because water stains bleed straight through ordinary paint.
  5. Match the texture and repaint the wall or ceiling so it reads as one surface.

On a Kennewick bathroom another contractor had flooded, the drywall repairs came after a new subfloor. Before a Richland listing, we patched walls with matched texture, painted and laid new LVP. In Kennewick we've also done texture-matched ceiling repair ahead of a sale.

What drywall and painting work is on the list?

  • Drywall patch and texture matching (orange peel, knockdown)
  • Water-damaged drywall and ceiling repair
  • New drywall hanging, tape and texture
  • Interior painting: walls, ceilings, rooms and whole houses
  • Exterior painting: stucco, trim, fascia and garage doors
  • Trim and door painting
  • FRP wall panels for light commercial spaces

Cabinet doors, trim and interior doors that come off the wall get sprayed in our climate-controlled paint shop and booth.

Painting goes past the walls

Premium entry doors get the same care as a wall repair: the old finish comes off, the door is refinished in our shop paint booth, and it goes back up looking new. See the full entry door refinishing project.

What Tri-Cities customers say

★★★★★
We had James repaint a double front-entry door that had badly blistered after only 6 years of use. … James researched suitable paints and methods of preparing the surface for repainting. The result was perfectly smooth and uniform in the color and gloss we wanted. … An impressed neighbor also plans to use his services.

FAQ

Drywall Repair & Painting: common questions

How long does a drywall patch take?

A small patch usually takes two short visits or one longer one, because each coat of mud needs to dry before the next coat, the texture and the paint. Larger water-damage repairs take a few days. We tell you the schedule when we quote it.

Can you match the texture on my Pasco walls?

Yes. We match orange peel, knockdown and smooth finishes by testing the spray on a sample first and adjusting it until the pattern matches your wall, then feathering it past the patch.

Can you fix nail pops and cracks in a newer West Pasco or Pasco home?

Yes. We reset or replace the popped fasteners, tape and mud the cracks, match the texture and repaint. Nail pops and corner cracks are common once a new house's framing dries out.

Can you repair water-damaged drywall?

Yes. Speedy's cuts out and replaces water-damaged drywall, matches the texture and repaints. If the leak is plumbing, we bring in a licensed plumber to fix it first. If the damage goes deeper than expected, we stop, take photos and get your OK before doing more.

Do you paint the whole wall or just the patch?

Whichever looks right. If the existing paint is close in color and sheen, we blend the patch. If the wall has faded or the sheen won't match, we paint it corner to corner.

Do you paint home exteriors in the Tri-Cities?

Yes. Speedy's paints exterior stucco, siding, trim, fascia, doors and garage doors for homes in Kennewick, Richland, Pasco and the rest of the Tri-Cities.
